Rude Girl Productions is an independent film and television company based in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

A collaboration of three experienced practitioners, Rude Girl began operating in 2021 with a shared vision of producing broad appeal, off-beat content with heart and attitude..

Kim Harrop

Co-owner

Kim Harrop is a writer and producer with over twenty years experience in both scripted and factual television, and writing and producing credits spanning many genres. Recent work includes creating, writing and producing two series of animated kids’ comedy factual series The Poo Files (TVNZ+), writing on international cosy crime series My Life is Murder (Greenstone), as well as co-creating, writing and producing multi award-winning prime time black comedy series Fresh Eggs (WBITVP), which also sold internationally. Kim held the Head Writer position on long running NZ medical soap Shortland Street, as well as senior development positions at both Eyeworks International and Warner Bros International TV Production, creating and developing a raft of successful scripted and factual projects. Before forming Rude Girl Productions, she was Scripted Commissioner for TVNZ+ and the HEI HEI children’s platform.

Amanda Beckett 

Co-owner

Amanda Beckett is a Line Producer and Chartered Accountant with over 20 years’ experience in the management of all genres of content for a broad range of Media organisations, including multi-national television broadcasters and independent film and television production companies. Amanda spent 10 years in the UK, where she held posts in a range of organisations including Walt Disney and Chrysalis Media. Returning to NZ Amanda she Great Southern Film & Television, where for ten years she headed their finance and corporate affairs assuming the position of General Manager. At Great Southern Amanda was responsible for strategic planning, finance, operations and the day to day running of the NZ and Australian entities – managing distribution and format requirements for several international series. She has vast experience in drama, including telefeatures The Kick (2014), Hillary (2016), Why Does Love? (2017) and Jonah (2019) Amanda also has significant experience in factual and documentary. Recent credits include an Executive Producer role on The Poo Files for HEI HEI/ TVNZ+, plus Line Producing and management roles on The Hui, The Check Up, The Casketeers, Shearing Gang and both Coast Australia and Coast New Zealand. Amanda’s Podcast experience includes line producing and management roles for NZ Wars S1,2 &5, Stories of Tauranga Moana, Matangireia S1&2, Party People, Mata S1&2.

John Hagen

Co-owner

John Hagen is a producer/ director with thirty years’ experience in the field. Recent projects include producing and directing A Living Hell, a documentary series investigating issues around leaky homes for Sky Open, producing and directing documentary The Enchanter Tragedy for TV3, heading Production on The Poo Files series 1 & 2, directing Griff’s Kiwi Road Trip , a tour of New Zealand with comedian Griff Rhys Jones; a behind the scenes documentary series about the New Zealand All Blacks; producer/director of Islands of The Gulf, a five-part factual series about Auckland’s beautiful gulf islands; producer/ director The New Zealand Home, a seven-part documentary series looking at the history of our homes. Prior to that he directed First Crossings, an historical adventure series depicting journeys through some of our wildest landscapes.
